German Public Opinion on Foreign and Security Policy in a Time of Transatlantic Stress, Part II

This workshop examines the effect of changes in transatlantic (and transpacific) relations on public opinion. Part II explores opportunities and limitations of survey experiments to study two recent developments in (inter)national security:  Uncertainty about the U.S. commitment to NATO (and the US-Japan alliance) and new offensive weapons systems developed by Russia and North Korea, which threaten Germany and Japan, respectively. The keynote panel "Promise, Opportunities and Limitations of Experimental Research for Security Studies" (1 p.m. to 2.15 p.m.) is open to the public.

Profs. Tim Büthe (HfP/TUM) and Joseph Grieco (Duke University) will conduct the workshop together with Naoko Matsumura (Kobe) and Atsushi Tago (Waseda University).
